With the release of the NATO vs. the Blok expansion there are a few new rules that will be incorporated in the game. These rules will be added to the Admiral's Handbook before the official release of the expansion. Below are the detailed descriptions of all additions to the game.
1. Allies Mechanic
Allies refers to any cards that use the word allies in the card text, or icons with the allies’ logos. Allied units are from one of 2 factions introduced in NATO vs the Blok. When a card refers to allied units, the cards must be from a country in the same or indicated faction. NATO countries represented are Canada, United States, Great Brittan, France, Spain and Norway. The countries represented by the Blok are Russia and China.
If a card were to give ships or aircraft from the same allied faction modifications to attack or defense, the units must be from countries of the same faction. Target ship and all allied ships refer to the same thing; that those ships must be from countries of the same faction.
Ships, weapons, aircraft, defense and resource cards typically have flags in the top right corner of the picture frame. This shows the country of origin or primary user of that unit. This is the country allied to one of the factions. The Core set also has a number of cards with flag icons pertaining to Canadian, US and British units and resources. These also count toward the Allies mechanic.
Any cards that don’t have icons are considered neutral and aren’t affected by allied cards.
2. New Ship Type: Light Aircraft Carriers
Light carriers are smaller ships that are able to carry helicopters and V/STOL aircraft. Light carriers will still use the standard hanger icon but will mean vertical take-off and landing aircraft only.
Light carriers will also get their own type icon, both generic (grey) and legendary (gold). The icon will be similar to the standard carrier icon except it will show a "ski-jump" on the bow. This will indicate light carriers over standard ones.
3. Aircraft Upgrade Tokens
New cards introduced in NATO vs the Blok have the ability to create aircraft upgrade tokens that get equipped to aircraft carriers. These tokens give +1ATK, +1DEF to aircraft equipped to that carrier, including preequipped aircraft. The official wording on the tokens will be, "Aircraft equipped to this carrier have +1,+1."
